The Truth About the Pay Gap

Well, this is interesting...

Apparently, the report released last week that told us women make 77 cents to every dollar paid to men was not exactly honest. From the story:

"In reality, that's not clear at all. What we know from an array of evidence, including this report, is that most if not all of the discrepancy can be traced to factors other than sexism."

Wow, that's not how I heard it when reported on the Today Show.

It appears that once you account for the fact that women with college degrees tend to take lower paying jobs out of college, such as teaching, pschology and the humanities and are more likely to work for non-profit goups and local governments, this explains the so-called gender gap.

I want to make sure you see this part that is near the end of the story:

June O'Neill, an economist at Baruch College and former director of the Congressional Budget Office, has uncovered something that debunks the discrimination thesis. Take out the effects of marriage and child-rearing, and the difference between the genders suddenly vanishes. "For men and women who never marry and never have children, there is no earnings gap," she said in an interview.

Interesting...

Not Enough Guns

Yeah, that's right. Not enough...

Let me start by stating I don't own a gun. I don't hunt, I live in a town with a population of less than 800 people, so crime is not a real concern for me. I have two kids, two dogs, and three cars. So I have more important things to spend money on. When my kids are up and out, then I'll consider spending some money on a gun.

That being said, I fully support and encourage the right to own firearms. I think the founding fathers got it right in guaranteeing us the right to own firearms. They basically gave us a tool in combating the evil that man can do. And these days, there is plenty of evil going around. And the sad thing is, it's our government that has forgotten what it means to have the right to defend ourselves.

I know, a pro-gun post just one day after the horrifying events of yesterday at Virginia Tech. How insensitive of me. But if more people would think the way I think, perhaps the events at Virginia Tech would not have been quite so horrifying. Allow me to explain.

You may or may not know by now that Virginia Tech, and most universities in Virginia, have policies in place that prevent even licensed gun owners from carrying a firearm on campus. This has proven to be a horrible policy in my opinion. And it gets worse...

In January of 06, the Virginia House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety defeated a bill that would have "would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus." Funny, I thought it was the Constitution that gives you the right to carry a gun, not the Virginia House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. Anyway, House Bill 1572 was proposed and defeated just over a year ago. And it's a crying shame because had the bill passed, maybe, just maybe, there would have been someone in that building that could have ended the needless carnarge.

In my opinion, it wasn't that there were too many guns on campus yesterday. It was there weren't enough. Just one additional gun in the right place at the right time yesterday could have saved dozens of lives. There really isn't any disputing that.

But the universities have this notion that having no guns creates a safer environment. Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker makes this perfectly clear when responding to H.B. 1572 defeat:

"I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Well, perhaps they felt safe, but it's clear, they were not safe. They were sitting ducks. This is yet another example of how liberalism is standing on your head and telling the rest of us that we are upside down. They seem to think that not having any guns around makes them safe.

Here's a question: Do you think the President would be safer if the Secret Service would lay down their guns? I mean, he's surrounded by guns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Perhaps he'd be safer with no guns around. The university would have you believe we're safer with no guns around. So I guess that means the President shouldn't have armed men protecting him. Because an environment without guns is a safe environment, right? I wonder if Hillary Clinton would feel safer if her Secret Service detail was unarmed...

Ok seriously, do you think this derranged college student that killed these people could have gotten within 9mm range of the President? Hell no.

The liberals pat themselves on the back for making students and faculty "feel" safe, but what they've actually done is create a target rich environment for any would-be shooter who decides to break the almighty no-gun policy, bring a gun into a classroom environment and start shooting. And the thing is, he knows he won't be confronted because of the no-gun policy.

And here is the thought that will keep me up all night long. The terrorists are watching. They are learning. They are quickly learning that our schools are prime targets because we insist on making our schools gun-free zones.

Let me tell you this, policies don't make keep our kids safe. Policies are nothing more than words on a sheet of paper. They are useless. What protects kids is action. And yesterday, it was a policy that actually prevented anyone from taking the actions needed to protect these kids.

Legos Banned Because They Teach Capitalism to Children

Oy...

From the story:

"Into their coffee shops and houses, the children were building their assumptions about ownership and the social power it conveys — assumptions that mirrored those of a class-based, capitalist society — a society that we teachers believe to be unjust and oppressive."

I'm too tired to write about this, but when I read something like that, I just want to punch somebody in the head. This kind of mentality is a cancer on our country and is a direct result of the 60's. That Marxist crap is alive and well in our education system. These hippies make me wanna puke.
